Built between 1999 and 2002, according to a design by Witold Cęckiewicz, as an expansion of the 19th-century convent of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy. After an unsuccessful architectural competition in 1997, the church’s design was commissioned directly from the architect and later personally approved by John Paul II, the main initiator of its construction. In August 2002, during a solemn consecration attended by the Pope, Witold Cęckiewicz presented him with the symbolic keys to the church. The basilica can accommodate 5,000 people (1,800 seats), has two levels (with five chapels on the lower level) and a 77-meter observation tower overlooking the southern part of Krakow. Address: ul. Siostry Faustyny 3, Krakow.
