The Philharmonic Hall was built between 2000 and 2004 on the site of the demolished Ignacy Vogel Concert Hall from the turn of the 20th century, whose façade is echoed by the postmodern design by Krakow architect Romuald Loegler. The project won awards including the “Building of the Year 2004” competition and the SARP Award for best architectural structure (2004). Constructed using architectural concrete, Indian granite, several types of glass, and metal, the building covers approximately 4,000 square meters. To acoustically protect the building from noise generated by tram traffic (a well-known problem at the Krakow Philharmonic), it was protected by a sand dam, and its façade was suspended from a special structure. Address: Gabriela Narutowicza Street 20/22, Łódź.
