Tychy, Church of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Clare
2026-02-04
“Little Assisi” – because it refers to the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, “Polish Sagrada Familia” – because its construction has been underway for three decades and it still lacks the tallest, fifth, 70-meter tower. The Tychy stone church, designed by Stanisław Niemczyk, is controversial and captivating in its originality. Built on the plan of a Franciscan cross, it has two levels and is connected to a multi-story monastery. Its five towers allude to the wounds of Christ and the stigmata of St. Francis. The church features a replica of the Porziuncola Chapel from the Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels near Assisi and the tomb of St. Francis. Address: Paprocańska 90, Tychy.
