The building was designed by Czesław Bielecki and his studio MiD’84, which in 1997 won first prize in the competition organised by the Association of Polish Architects for the new headquarters of TVP (the preliminary design was also co-created by the French studio Atelier d’Architecture – Karczewski & Bernier). It was built between 2001 and 2008 at a cost of PLN 190 million. In 2008, it was voted the ugliest building in Poland in the Makabryły poll (Bryla.pl, Agora). Thanks to its circular foundation and the dominant glass Tower of Babel, the building is intended, according to its designer, to symbolise the openness, accessibility and ‘multilingualism’ of the media reality in Poland. Despite widespread criticism, Bielecki’s design also received many positive and even enthusiastic reviews. Over time, it has become one of the most famous icons of postmodern architecture in Poland. Address: Jana Pawła Woronicza 17, Warsaw.
