This postmodern, monumental building in Warsaw’s Praga district was built between 1984 and 1993, according to a design by a group of architects including Wojciech Hermanowicz, Tomasz Lechowski, Marek Żarski, Janusz Jaworski, Elżbieta Latek-Lechowska, and Małgorzata Łukasiewicz-Traczyńska. The Praga Nursing Home was nominated in the first edition of the Życie w Architekturze competition – Best Building in Warsaw 1989-1995. The jury deemed it “monumental and concise” (its merits), but also controversial due to its “fortified form.” The local portal Twoja Praga describes it as “perfectly integrated into the brick-and-mortar atmosphere” of the district. The five-story building houses 42 rooms for over a hundred residents, and the entire building is barrier-free. A soup kitchen operates on the ground floor. The Nursing Home is run by the Albertine Sisters. Address: Kawęczyńska 4B, Warsaw.
