A multi-storey car park in the centre of Wrocław, built between 1993 and 2000, an icon of Polish postmodernism and 1990s architecture. Designed on commission from Parkingi Miejskie S.A. by Stefan Müller (and his Terra office) in collaboration with Paweł Jaszczuk (co-founder of Solpol). Due to its unusual and dominant form, it still arouses much controversy today. It is called the ‘Cathedral of Our Lady of Parking’ (because of its soaring tower), described as “aggressive” and ‘disturbing’, criticised for dominating the old town’s buildings. On the other hand, it has become the most recognisable architectural object in the Old Town built after 1989, whose purpose – not only according to its authors – was to break with the small-town, post-war architecture of the Polish People’s Republic in the centre of Wrocław. Address: 60 Kazimierza Wielkiego Street, Wrocław.
